Specialisms

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Relationships

I take a psychodynamic approach with clients that will often focus on identifying relational themes within a client's family and may involve exploring how dynamics from the past are playing out in the present. With this awareness, I have seen clients find possibility to shift difficult dynamics with family members, including partners, children and friends during the course of therapy. This can involve improving communication, building healthy boundaries or finding acceptance.

Addiction

I have spent over eight years supporting people suffering and recovering from alcohol addiction as part of the organisation CGL, based in Central London. Addiction is a complex area that is prevalent throughout society. As a therapist I am interested in treating and helping the sufferer understand what lies behind the addictive behaviour; this could be difficult trauma or other early painful experiences that once understood or given meaning can support the person's recovery to find a way out of the specific addiction.

Depression

Depression can feel like being stuck or lost in a fog. It can feel debilitating, confusing and sometimes frightening. Therapy provides a safe space to find meaning and relief, gradually emerge from the fog and to understand the patterns that might trigger depression in the first place.

Anxiety

I have worked with many clients understanding their triggers for anxiety, helping managing symptoms and find ways of building resilience. Some clients have had anxiety disorder diagnoses while other clients have general anxiety. Over time I help clients to regulate anxiety and start to feel like they can begin to enjoy life again without the fear that anxiety will kick in unexpectedly.

Trauma

I take a trauma informed approach with all my interactions with clients and am sensitive to the need to build trust in the therapeutic encounter to be able to address traumatic experiences. I have worked with clients who have suffered a range of trauma including sexual, emotional and physical abuse, in childhood and as an adult. Sometimes, but not always, my clients have come with diagnosis such as PTSD and complex PTSD.
